Keynote speakers from around the world presented an overview of the global situation with regard to hinterland access. Industry professionals with experience of dry ports and intermodal operations presented in parallel with academics, so that the latest developments in the industry could add specific context to the academic analysis.
Speakers included representatives from the UN, UNESCAP, national development agencies and national port bodies, as well as dry port managers, rail operators and senior academics.
The conference took place over two days. A total of ten sessions (two plenary sessions plus two parallel streams of four sessions each) included over 40 speakers. Each session paired academics with industry professionals, ensuring a rounded view of current developments and opportunities in all areas relating to hinterland access, inland terminals and the new role of ports in the transport chain.
